I very rarely talk about my “9-5” job. I work in a level one trauma hospital in the surgical suite. I have the honor to work alongside some of the best surgeons in the state. I assist them in diagnosing and removing diseases such as endometriosis, cancer, fibroids, hidradenitis and even work on things such as burns and facial fractures. Working in a level one trauma center has taught me a lot and to be exposed to so much at such a young age is amazing. I get to see the way the body works in such a different way. Our bodies work so hard to keep up alive and it’s fascinating to see the things it can create as a defense mechanism or even to see how certain diseases/conditions look and grow.

     I do feel truly blessed to work at the place I do and to be expose to the things I have. I have been taught so much from what I have seen and experienced. I see some really rare cases that I might not have originally been exposed to in a smaller, community hospital. I have learned a lot about being in an emergent situations and in hindsight I even learned a lot about myself in the process.  

     I put quotation marks around the 9-5 because that’s not even close to the schedule I work. I work twelve hour shifts from 6:15-6:45 with the chance that I could stay later. I also have an hour commute to and from work which makes the work day way longer. Thats 14 hours out of my day if everything runs on time. I think I mentioned before that in the winter I never see the light of day because of daylight savings time. Which is one of the many reasons I’m not really a fan of winter.

     Aside from all of that though I do really enjoy my job and being able to see all of the interesting people and conditions that come through. I had thought about occasionally throwing in a informative “research paper style” blog post about a random condition that I witnessed and the efforts we made to assist the patients in their recovery process. Without violating any HIPPA standards of course.
