Q&A: Writing Edition

Here’s a few little questions and answers I did based on my Instagram story I posted. I thought this would be a fun thing to do!

What inspired you to start writing?

When I was younger, I started a dream journal. I would, and still do, have very vivid dreams and I would always wake up before they would end so I would write the ending and sometimes make it more elaborate and turn them into short stories or novellas. I also had a best friend when I was younger and she was an aspiring writer, extremely good and she inspired me every day with her skills.

Does writing Energize or Exhaust you?

A little bit of both. Here lately I have been exhausted for other reasons that I can’t link to writing but I usually feel extremely energized when I write. There’s something about getting my thoughts out on paper, whether it is fiction or non-fiction that allows my brain a chance to escape and express. It’s often like a release to me. A release of energy and thoughts.

In your opinion, what is the difference between and author and a writer?

I’ve never really considered a difference. I consider myself a writer because I write an publish my own work but I wouldn’t consider myself an author because I’ve never completed a whole novel. So many someone who writes novels? Though, I would also consider a scientist who publishes a research documentary an author so maybe it has to do with the extensity of the work itself? That’s a good question.

Do you think you have to have a certain personality for writing?

I would not say that you have to have a certain personality for writing. I do believe that you have to have a certain level of creativity and variety of emotions.

If you think you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

I would tell my younger self to never give up. To keep creating. I really do wish that I milked my passion more when I was younger and focused on becoming what I always dreamed of. Even though it’s never too late, I do believe it’s essential in your younger years to encourage your hobbies and passions and turn them into habits.

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

I would definitely say a fox. Hence, my logo. For one, it’s super cute and cozy and for two, I feel like foxes have a high spiritual reputation and they can mean a variety of things depending on what folklore you follow. Foxes remind me of creativity, intuition and adaptability as they are well known to be able to adapt to any environment they inhabit. I feel like I have personal experience with the fox as a spirit guide.

Do you believe in writer’s block?

Absolutely. I think sometimes our brains become overused and it’s hard to describe just what we’re thinking. I have this one scene in my head for a story that I can’t quite figure out how to get to it. I think it’s a natural part of the writing process. It’s how and when you overcome it that matters.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Drinks, snacks and music. I like to have something playing in the background when I write, usually something gentle. Music is a muse for me because I feel like it’s meant to pull the emotions out of you. It creates the ambiance of everything. whenever I pause to think I like to eat or drink something, always water but usually something else like coffee or juice to mix it up.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Which question was your favorite? What would some of your answers be?
