Classic Obsession: Bettering Yourself.

After a heavier blog post last week, I decided to type up something easy and relatable. Inspired by many recent posts I’ve seen on social media.

I’ve seen a lot of people make posts about ho w they are obsessed with becoming better versions of themselves. Sharing it. Boasting about it. I admire it, don’t get me wrong. I used to even identify with it as well. I know what it’s like to be obsessed with becoming better. Constantly thinking of the future and ways to improve it.

But sometimes I think we become too obsessed about making better versions of ourselves.

We become so engulfed with it that sometimes it blinds us to who we are and how we are in the present.

I catch myself worrying so much about what’s going to happen or where I want to be; in 2 years, 5 years, even 10 years. Then I realized that that’s not even the important part. The important part is right now. What am I doing right now to influence the decisions I’m going to make later on. I want to work harder to do better and be better. Be more focused and self driven. It’s a constant thing.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, it doesn’t have to feel constant. It doesn’t have to be you vs you all the time. I am my own worst enemy when I should be my own best hero. Take your life one day at a time. Be in the moment. Take a step back, set time aside to plan that meeting with a college advisor or schedule your workout sessions or even write a plan out for your future. Tell yourself what you want it to look like and get started on it but don’t allow it to consume you. Don’t become obsessed with it. Don’t let it intrude your everyday thoughts.

Remember to love the life you have while you are building the life you want.

The life you want isn’t going anywhere. The life you have, could. Spend time with your friends. Spend time with your families. Embrace your children being young and enjoy your engagement as long as you want. Give yourself a balance of working toward your goals and being present with yourself and your life.

as always,

with love,
