Things I’ve Liked Recently

Where have I been?

Hi friends,

I apologize for my absence. This past semester of college had me stressed. I did my final exam last Saturday! **whoop whoop** so now I feel like I can focus my time on others things that I like and need to do. I have the hardest time prioritizing my life at times and managing my time. I need to take a day to breathe and realign my life and my priorities and set everything straight so that next semester I’ll have more of a sense of what needs to happen in my life. Things that I value a lot have taken the back burner and I have felt lost in a way.

I am thinking more clear headed now that the dreadful semester is out of the way and I’m going to take this time to focus my energies and prioritize.

While I was away I wanted share some of the things I have liked recently.. By the way math is not one of them.

Supplements + Drinks

In the past few months I have been experiencing the feelings of crashing that is similar to that of blood sugar dropping. I’m currently in the process of figuring out why this is happening. Something I noticed in my research is that protein can directly be correlated to sugar levels in the sense that if you don’t have enough protein intake it can make your sugar irregular.

So because of that I have been focusing more on my protein intake, being a vegetarian that’s something that I used to be more aware of but lately I just haven’t been keeping track of it. To be specific, I’m an ovo-lacto vegetarian meaning I primarily eat a plant based diet but I still consume eggs and dairy even if it’s trace amounts. Some of these options are fully plant based and others are not. Whey protein for example comes from milk so it contains dairy products and so fourth.

Ghost Protein Shake & Ghost Pre Workout

Ghost Chips Ahoy Protein + Ghost Sonic Ocean Water Pre-Workout

Whey Protein is a milk-based protein, not suitable for vegan but this provides 25g of protein. Which for me is half of my daily needed intake. This has been the best protein shake I have had flavor wise. I haven’t branched out very much but this is delicious. It contains real pieces of chips ahoy cookie and doesn’t have a chalky texture like most protein shakes tend to.

Ghost also makes a vegan protein shake with just as much protein but non of the animal by products!

The Ghost pre-workout is also delicious. I have the flavor Sonic Ocean Water, inspired by the famous Sonic drink flavor. It’s almost my favorite sonic drink flavor. I do typically only do half a scoop of pre just because my body doesn’t seem to take it very well, not Ghost alone but pre-workout as a whole. It does fill me with the necessary energy to get through my workout as well as promoting sweating and increased heartrates. It tastes really good. Make sure if you use this product to drink plenty of water before, during and after use.

Caramel Macchiato International Delight Iced Coffee

Caramel Macchiato Iced Coffee

This isn’t a supplement but it’s been a frequent buy for me. I love International Delight products because they tend to be lactose-free which agrees most with my belly. During a busy work week where I don’t want to feel rushed to make coffee I like to just be able to pour me a drink for the road. The consistency is that of chocolate milk; thick, cold and rich.

There are other brands that have options like this and they are just as good and convenient!

Soylent Protein Chocolate and Strawberry Flavors

Soylent Plant Protein Shake

This product is completely vegan and gluten-free.

This product contain 16g of protein and to me it’s delicious. I can’t drink a whole drink at once but I do drink half and half throughout the day because it is thick and I believe a lot of people use it as a meal-replacement product.

Books

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hossini

This year one of my goals is to read two books a month with a total of 24 books a year. I have maintained that goal so far. I even started up a Bookstagram (http://instagram.com/cays.shelf) for some accountability and to network with avid readers and get live reviews on popular books.

Misborn Series

The Well of Ascension (Book 2 of the Mistborn Series) by Brandon Sanderson

I started the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson as it was recommended to me by a co-worker. I never really dived much into fantasy novels; at least into my adulthood but it has certainly provided a safe escape for me . I fell in love with the character and the story line. The main character goes through so much character development and that’s the kind of thing that draws me in. You know she is going to be powerful and she turns out to be even more than what you can imagine.

BOTM

My Book of the Month choices for this year.

BOTM or Book of the Month is a subscription service that allows you to pick a book a month from 5 choices, some of them even being debut novels. You have the option to not choose a book and your credit just rolls on to the next month. It’s about $14 a month and you are provided with a hard cover copy of your book.

This s good for people who want to read and don’t know where to start or avid readers that want to add spice into their collection.

I have enjoyed most of my picks so far!

Beauty Products

Hempz Body Lotion + Tanologist Self Tanner Drops

Tanologist Face + Body Self Tanner Drops & Hempz Body Lotion

Hempz Body Lotion has over time become my favorite lotion. It’s gives off full scents while providing adequate moisture. As you can tell from the picture, this bottle is well used and well loved. I use it every day that I get out of the shower, wile my skin is still damp to allow it to asorb as much as possible.

I recently began pairing my daily lotion with the Tanologist drops to give me a subtle summer glow. I use gloves when applying out of habit whenever I apply self tanner. I love that this pairs well with most daily lotions and you can add however many drops you would like in order to get your desired shade. I haven’t had any issues with streaking our uneven color. It provides a nice warm glow without the orangey tint that we all fear.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste quickly became my favorite dry shampoo. It’s powerful with minimal use. I use it on clean hair mostly because I have a naturally oily scalp just like my face skin type and this helps leave my hair feeling and looking fresh. I trust this product even after I have had a light workout (not a hardcore sweaty one of course) or even just the day after wash night to keep my hair looking and feeling great.

This product isn’t heavy and doesn’t leave a lot of residue either which I also like.

Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream + Not Your Mothers 10-in-1 Perfector

Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream + Not Your Mothers 10-in-1 Perfector

While we are on the topic of hair care products. These are two products that I use almost everyday!

I usually put Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream on the lower half of my hair which has the most frizz effect. I apply this after styling mostly but sometimes before or on days where I don’t style it at all to protect it from frizz and give it more body and volume. It feels weightless unlike other products I’ve used in the past. It feels like I don’t have any product in at all.

As for the Not Your Mother’s 10-in-1 Perfector, I spray this in my hair after every shower while my hair is still damp or right before I style my hair to allow the heat protectant to set in. This product has properties that help detangle, repair and moisturize your hair. And it’s less than $10!

That’s all I have from the counter of Cay. I really enjoy sharing my favorite things with people, this might become a quarterly post idea just based on what is going on during that time. I would do it more frequently but when I have a favorite something I usually use it until I grow tired of it. I could do other branches of my life like fitness supplies, cheap but good outfits, writing utensils and things of that nature.
